Research has a long history in the École. Without going
back too far, it was in the 1980s that it received a great boost from
Management, with the aim of stimulating research teams, promoting
groupings around clearly defined scientific policies and above all
making a stronger affirmation of its role in the educational project.
The École's research center is presently composed of 7
laboratories including 1 research team whose theme areas are varied and cover
numerous disciplines taught at the École. These theme areas evolve with
the needs of the educational project and with technical and economic
requirements.
The mission of each laboratory and research team
is to develop its research to the highest international scientific level
and establish indispensable links with French and non-French university
laboratories and major research bodies, and with corporate research
centers too. Three large laboratories are associated with the CNRS, one
as a unit in its own right, two others as a mixed unit.
Of
course the different teams work together as often as possible, not only
to make maximum use of the capital of skills of the École research
center and its remarkable scientific equipment, but also because the
industrial problems tackled by the teams increasingly require a
pluridisciplinary approach.
