3 ECP students honored in the french newspaper "Le Monde"
Le Monde published on June 17-18 th presents in page 8 the results of a 2nd year student project of ECP related to "Use mangrove to produce fresh water from sea". Romain Brouard, Fabien Cassica and Vincent Torrent wanted to use the natural transpiration of mangrove to condensate vapor in order to produce fresh water from sea.
Their objective is to install such a system in the Dongtan eco-town to be built on an island in front of Shangaï.
The LGPM research department provided facilities to allow students to build a laboratory scale model to demonstrate the feasibility of the process.

ECP and Nature: A night vision camera for nanosciences
Jean-Jacques Greffet and Rémi Carminati from EM2C laboratory in collaboration with Yannick De Wilde at ESPCI report in the issue of december 7 of Nature the first images taken with a "night vision camera".
This novel technique called "Thermal Radiation Scanning Tunneling Microscopy" allows to take images with 100 nm resolution using the radiation emitted by the sample without external illumination.
This technique paves the way towards new spectroscopic characterization tools for nanostructures and nanomaterials. It is both the first observation and the first application of the existence of enhanced coherent thermal fields close to interfaces. This effect had been predicted by Ecole Centrale Paris in 2000.
