Research Departments and Research Teams
Research has a long history in the École. Without going back too far, it was in the 1980s that it received a great boost from Management, with the aim of stimulating research teams, promoting groupings around clearly defined scientific policies and above all making a stronger affirmation of its role in the educational project.
The École's research center is presently composed of 6 research departments including 1 research team whose theme areas are varied and cover numerous disciplines taught at the École. These theme areas evolve with the needs of the educational project and with technical and economic requirements.

The mission of each research department and research team is to develop its research to the highest international scientific level and establish indispensable links with French and non-French university research departments and major research bodies, and with corporate research centers too. Three large laboratories are associated with the CNRS, one as a unit in its own right, two others as a mixed unit.
Of course the different teams work together as often as possible, not only to make maximum use of the capital of skills of the École research center and its remarkable scientific equipment, but also because the industrial problems tackled by the teams increasingly require a pluridisciplinary approach.
