Business Sciences: Industrial Engineering

Objectives

The Business Sciences: Industrial Engineering Master’s is designed to train students in applied as well as academic research issues, in close connection with companies working in the following domains:

  • Design engineering
  • Decision-making aids and industrial and logistic systems optimization
  • Business Process Modeling
  • Environmental Management
These domains are represented by 3 specializations:
  • Design Engineering & Design Management (MoMaC)
  • Industrial and Logistic Systems Optimization (OSIL)
  • Organization Modeling and Management (MoMO)

Pedagogy

The courses taught in the Business Sciences: Industrial Engineering Master’s programme are highly integrated with the course offering at École Centrale Paris.
The first Master’s year draws heavily on 1st and 2nd-year engineering courses at École Centrale Paris, bringing them a greater degree of specialization and intensiveness through a strong emphasis on individual and laboratory work (at Centrale laboratories, as well as at partner academic institutions, and industrial partners).
The MoMaC and OSIL M2 courses are almost all part of the 3rd-year Industrial Engineering option offered at École Centrale Paris. The MoMO specialization courses are offered at École Centrale Lille.

Partner Laboratory

Industrial Engineering (LGI) EA 2606

The Industrial Engineering Laboratory (LGI) at École Centrale Paris develops decision-making methods for the design and optimization of products, services, and logistics and industrial systems. The laboratory’s research activities relate to methods of organization, management, design, production, and distribution of products and services, throughout their lifecycle. It provides companies with the methods necessary to improve their performance and competitiveness (quality, cost, delivery time).
The laboratory is comprised of 5 research teams. These teams have research agendas that partially overlap, which enables exchanges between researchers in complementary specializations. Most researchers are involved in several of the following groups:

  • Theme 1: Product and Services Development Systems
  • Theme 2: Product and Services Production/Distribution
  • Axis A: Project Management
  • Axis B: Knowledge and Information Management
  • Axis C: Innovation Management

Opportunities

The Business Sciences: Industrial Engineering Master’s prepares students for an academic career as well as for a career in business. Upon completion of the degree, students interested in a research-oriented career ordinarily go on to complete a doctorate, either at École Centrale Paris’ Industrial Engineering Laboratory, or at another research laboratory. Upon completion of the PhD, these students are still in a position to choose between an academic or business career, in France or abroad. Centrale Paris’ Doctoral School awards several doctoral fellowships each year, and many other funding sources are available from companies (CIFRE contracts, etc.).

Students who opt not to go on to a doctorate are well positioned to move directly into professional engineering positions, according to their chosen specialization. Specialists in the domain of modeling in industrial engineering are in high demand, and graduates interested in working in the business world enjoy a distinct advantage on the job market.
