Thermal Sciences M2
The Thermal Sciences specialization provides high-level training in
- transfers (advanced thermal transfers, turbulent transfers, porous media transfers, diphasic flow transfers, dense media and gas radiation, etc.)
- reactive media (combustion, possibly plasmas) and related techniques (turbomachines, etc.).
Student-researchers may customize their training from among a wide array of elective courses, covering all aspects of the energy sector.
Courses
Fundamentals:
- UE1 Transfers, 4 ECTS
Mass and heat transfers, coupled transfers, and turbulent transfers
- UE2 Thermal Radiation and Combustion, 4 ECTS
Dense media and gas radiation, combustion
- UE3 Polyphasic Media, 4 ECTS
Two-phase flow, porous media transfers
General or applied electives, 2 ECTS (4 to choose from)
Practical courses:
- UE4 Numerical Methods and Project, 4 ECTS
- UE5 Thermal Methodology, 3 ECTS
- UE6 Measuring Techniques: Individual Work, 3 ECTS

A laboratory project (2 ECTS in S3, 6 ECTS in S4)
Within one of the Master program's supporting laboratories. A detailed proposal must be approved by the Master program's coordinators before work gets underway.
An advanced research or R&D internship, 20 ECTS (from end of April to mid-September), at an academic laboratory, a research organ or institute (CNRS, CEA, IFP, IRSN, CSTB etc.), or a company research center; the internship must entail original and significant physical and/or numerical and/or experimental modeling; a detailed proposal must be approved by the Master program's coordinators before work gets underway.
