Clickers: the converted try

01/03/2012

Centrale Paris permanently installs clickers (student direct response technology) to make teaching in amphitheatres more interactive.

Lionel Gabet, Professor of Mathematics at the School, experimented with the use of clickers for his courses in amphitheatres during the first semester. Following this conclusive experience, both for the professor and the students, the School has installed this innovative pedagogical tool for permanent use.

All first-year students have received a personal clicker to keep for the year. Today, two amphitheatres are equipped to allow responses to be recorded during first-year courses. Two other amphitheatres will be equipped later. Jean Michel Gillet, Professor of Physics, has just introduced the use of clickers during his courses in physics; it will then be the turn of Behnam Taidi for his course in biology.

The School hopes to progressively encourage more and more professors to adopt clickers and incorporate them in technical (to master the software) and pedagogical training in order to develop their usage.
